L-Hero is a project created as part of an exhibition called Alternative Unknowns, which was initiated by the New York City Department of Emergency Management and was themed on emergency response. After immersion in the Department’s operations and independent research, I designed this object because I felt that a low-tech/high-tech street object would be very useful to the public in a multitude of emergency situations. L-Hero is a ticket dispenser installed at public spaces and would allow people passing by to retrieve information on local services, such as a “local hero” would. The tickets are low-tech and high-tech; low-tech with maps indicating points of interest and high-tech with QR codes linking users to live maps indicating information real-time.
